Where to Eat Around the Sacré-Coeur in Montmartre

Sacré-Coeur is one of the most visited sites in Paris. From its perch, you can enjoy one of the best views of the city. Many visitors who trek up to the basilica inevitably also visit neighboring Place du Tertre. Though the square is charming, the restaurants that border it aren’t very good. Nevertheless, there are some excellent restaurants in Montmartre. All you need to do is drift a little away from the touristy area. Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or inventive cuisine, a mere few minutes’ walk can take you to these great restaurants near Sacré-Coeur.

Best Breakfast or Brunch Spots near Sacré-Coeur

Pain Pain, Les 5 Marches, and Lou Lou Montmartre, in the quick lunch or snack section, are also good for breakfast or brunch.

Café Mareva

This is a great hidden gem, found on a non-touristy street at the base of Sacré-Coeur. Café Mareva looks small from the outside, but there are some tables at the back. I like the fact that their menu is a little more original than other brunch spots. My favorite option is the gluten-free sweet potato waffles that you can get a whole range of toppings, from fruit to avocado and bacon. They also have great pancakes, smoothie bowls, and a range of creative hot drinks.

Immersion Montmartre

The latest outpost of the trendy brunch spot is found on the high end of rue des Martyrs, close to métro Abbesses. On the menu at Immersion Montmartre you’ll find brunch favorites with a modern twist, such as avocado toast with stracciatella cheese, pesto, confit tomatoes, and grilled hazelnuts, or waffles with crispy fried chicken and smoked maple syrup. They’ve got a big list of extra items, so you can customize your dish just as you like.

Bossue

Tucked away in the more local side of the neighbourhood, at the end of rue des Abbesses, Bossue was one of the first modern cafés in Montmartre. Although it’s about a 10-minute walk from Sacré-Coeur, you’ll be rewarded with a more local crowd and delicious snacks and lunch items.

They also do brunch on Sundays. Reserve in advance because it’s pretty popular with Parisians.

Best Spots for a Quick Lunch or Snack near Sacré-Coeur

The Comptoir Breizh Creperie, in the family section, and the Bouillon Pigalle are also good for a quick lunch. During the week, Boite aux Lettres has a great lunch menu, and on weekends, Le Bon Bock is good for lunch – both are in the traditional French section.

Grenouilles

I’d avoid most of the eateries in the touristy streets near Sacré-Coeur, but Grenouilles is an exception. Sitting on the side street leading towards the back of the Basilica, the venue proudly accepts the foreign nickname of the French – “frogs”. You won’t necessarily find frog’s legs on the menu, but you can pick up some good-quality sandwiches and crepes to go or to munch on at their few tables. In the late afternoon and early evening, they also have happy hour prices and apéro boards, so you could stop here if you’re visiting the area in the afternoon.

Buffet Sandwicherie Fine

A brief saunter down the stairs to the right when facing the basilica will lead you to the gourmet sandwich shop

Buffet Sandwicherie Fine . On their regularly changing lineup of sandwiches, served on fantastic homemade bread, you’ll find intriguing combinations like asparagus, roasted bacon, and aïoli or tartare of razor clams with sundried tomatoes and rocket. They also sell a notable selection of craft beer, wines, and other artisanal food products in their takeaway épicerie section.

Pain Pain

This award-winning boulangerie is the closest actually good bakery to Sacré-Coeur. In addition to sandwiches made with their excellent bread, what I like to get at Pain Pain are actually the quiches. There’s always a vegetarian option, and they are amazing. Don’t forget you can ask for it heated up.

Café Halle St-Pierre

Hiding at the base of Sacré-Coeur is Café Halle St-Pierre, housed within a cool art space within an old market hall. Even if you don’t visit its “art brut” exhibits, the venue is really worth a visit, with a gorgeous iron structure. The café has hot drinks, cakes, and some light lunch fare.

Les 5 Marches

If you want a takeaway coffee or casual sit-down lunch away from the crowds, then Les 5 Marches is a great option. It’s only a few minutes walk from Place du Tertre, but it’s just far enough removed from the masses. Since I live nearby, I stop in here sometimes, and I love their golden and black sesame lattes, decadent carrot cake, and their seasonal lunch dishes are also tasty.

Best Traditional French Restaurants near Sacré-Coeur

Bouillon Pigalle

I’ve loved this great modern bouillon since it opened in 2017. Bouillon Pigalle serves traditional French classics at really affordable prices. It has a bustling ambiance and a mixed crowd of all ages, Parisians and tourists. They usually change the menu every season, but it always has classic soup, steak frites, and a vegetarian option. The lines can get really long, but they also take reservations. However, if you weren’t able to book, and you don’t want to wait in line, they’ve got a takeaway shop down the street where you can get some of their dishes and sandwiches.

Boite aux Lettres

Just a tiny bit further than the touristy rue Norvins is this great bistrot, Boite aux Lettres. It’s just far enough from the touristy traps yet close enough to Sacré-Coeur for a good lunch after visiting Montmartre in the morning, or a more relaxing dinner in the area. If you do come for lunch, you’ll be treated to an excellent-value lunch menu at 19€ for two courses or 24€ for three. The last time I was there, I had a delicious oeuf parfait (poached egg) on a herby cream to start, followed by zucchini stuffed with wild rice.

Le Bon Bock

Originally opened in 1876 and the oldest restaurant in Montmartre, in June 2025, Le Bon Bock was taken over by the team who reinvented the Petit Bouillon Pharamond. They’ve kept the old school spirit of the restaurant while sprucing up the decor a touch. The menu has all the best French classics, with a slightly modern twist, and made with excellent ingredients. When I went, I feasted on white asparagus, vol-au-vent with ratatouille, and a decadent choux à la crème for dessert. It’s only open for lunch on weekends for now, but it makes for a fantastic place for dinner after exploring Montmartre.

Best Modern Restaurants near Sacré-Coeur

Loulou Montmartre

Literally in the shadow of Sacré-Coeur, at the top of rue Lamarck, is this great organic restaurant with a panoramic view over the rooftops of eastern Paris. During the day, Loulou Montmartre serves breakfast, light lunch fare, kombucha, coffee, and cake, while in the evening, they switch to creative small plates, natural wine, craft beer, and cocktails.

Le Bon, la Butte

A stone’s throw from the main tourist street next to Sacré-Coeur, rue Norvins, is Le Bon, la Butte. This nice local bistrot has a few tables outdoors which have a view of the Moulin de la Galette and an airy dining room with traditional wooden café tables.

The menu changes regularly, but it usually includes French dishes blended with international flavors like tandoori-style Boeuf bourguignon or filet of mackerel glazed in miso.

Sobremesa

For a meal of cool sharing plates or a glass of natural wine with some nibbles, stop in at this hip wine bar. Sitting on the more local rue Caulaincourt, Sobremesa is a cozy place with a handful of tables and some seating at the bar. The lighting is low, and there’s groovy music playing in the background, so it’s got a great ambiance. Every month, it has a new chef-in-residence. When I last went, I had some fabulous South Chinese dishes prepared by Shan Rachel Jiang. Owners Marie and Emilien are there to help you pick out the best natural and biodynamic wines to go along with your food.

Best Italian and International Restaurants near Sacré-Coeur

Sobremesa in the modern section has fusion international cuisine.

Bistrotto

The little sister of the popular Italian restaurant Sugo, Bistrotto has a fantastic location on a small, quiet square at the base of a staircase behind Montmartre. Their terrace is really lovely, so try to get a table there when the weather’s good. The inside is small, but very cozy and perfect for a romantic meal. They have excellent homemade pasta, and I love their slow-cooked tomato sauce, which is very rich in flavor. Save room for dessert because they have phenomenal pannacotta that has a creative twist.

Popino

If you’re craving pizza, then check out this super pizzeria that’s only a few minutes’ walk from the base of Sacré-Coeur. Popino serves up both classic and contemporary pizzas using exceptional ingredients and cooked in a wood-fired oven. It also has the added bonus of outdoor seating facing a pretty square, Place Charles Dullin, home to the Théâtre de l’Atelier, and virtually not a tourist in sight.

Panatobaguette

For a creative meal that’ll tantalize your palate, take a short saunter down to the amazing Basque-Korean fusion small-plate venue Panatobaguette found in the more local Ramey Village behind Sacré-Couer. They’ve got a large summertime terrace as well as a cozy interior with stone walls and seating on high stools. The surprising and innovative menu of chef Rodolphe Graffin changes regularly. When I last went, I adored the ajitsuke eggs with wasabi mayonnaise, Basque “crepes”, and the shiso “ravioli” filled with smoked ricotta and pickled morels, which is one of the best dishes I’ve had in a very long time. The menu items are fewer at lunch, but their fixed-price option is a great deal at 20€ for two courses and 23€ for three.

Sapinho

If you’d like to take a break from French cuisine and the crowds on top of Montmartre, seek out this wonderful Portuguese restaurant, Sapinho . It sits on a charming square beneath a set of stairs and offers a peaceful ambiance. Chef Rachel Fontamer beautifully prepares contemporary versions of Portuguese classics, all made with exceptional ingredients. You can start with a few dishes to share, like squid croquettas and cod fritters, before moving on to feijoada de cogumelos (bean and mushroom stew) or carne alentejana (marinated pork loin with shellfish and fried yellow sweet potato).

Best Family Restaurants near Sacré-Coeur

All the places in the lunch and snack section are good for families. The Bouillon Pigalle is also good for families, especially if you come on the early side when there’s less of a line and when kids tend to like to eat as well.

Comptoir Breizh

There’s a Café Breizh in Montmartre, but I think this more laid-back, and more affordable, creperie is a better option for families. Comptoir Breizh is right across from the metro station on rue des Abbesses, so it’s convenient too. It’s got all the classic crepes, like ham and cheese, as well as more inventive options. If the kids eat up their meal crepes, they might have room for a delicious chocolate or caramel dessert crepe.

Le Chinon

This casual café on Rue des Abbesses is a good option for an affordable sit-down meal that’ll please all ages in your group. Le Chinon serves classic croque-monsieur sandwiches, pizzas, and crepes that’ll appeal to the kids. Parents can enjoy a glass of Chinon wine over a burger, salad or the other traditional French dishes they serve up.

Best Vegetarian or Gluten-free Friendly Restaurants near Sacré-Coeur

A number of the other restaurants on this list, including Le Bon Bock, Le Bouillon Pigalle, the Italian restaurants, Comptoir Breizh Creperie, and Pantobaguette, always have some veggie options. Bossue and Immersion are also suitable for a vegetarian lunch, and in the brunch section, Mareva also has gluten-free dishes.

Urban Greener

This is the best 100% vegetarian restaurant in Montmartre, and it’s just to the east of Sacré-Coeur. Although Urban Greener has a small dining room and an equally petit menu, it’s big on flavor. You can choose between their plat du jour, poke bowls, or tartines gourmandes—bite-sized delights, made with their homemade “cheese,” bread, and other seasonal items, which are perfect to order to go and enjoy in the park beneath Sacré-Coeur.

La Manufacture du Sans Gluten

If you’re looking for a gluten-free snack or sandwich, track down this 100% gluten-free bakery.

La Manufacture du Sans Gluten has baguettes, pastries, meat and veggie sandwiches, and other tasty treats. It’s located near the Bateau Lavoir, so you can enjoy your snacks on a bench in the square in front of this former art studio of Picasso and other Montmartre artists.
